100k Words Written

I've been pretty busy the past couple of days! If you follow me on Twitter, you've probably seen as much. But that's not the point here.

So, I just passed the 100,000 word mark for the Word file on this project. I'd estimate Tyzian's route is a little under halfway done, Simone's just under that, and Mel's is still in the early stages. I've been bouncing back and forth between routes to write as I come up with ideas for scenes to see these characters together in.

Take for instance today's image preview- where Mel invites you to play Ban'rlong with him! This is my made up version of a game like shogi or chess, since my actual understanding of those games is minimal at best. Since Mel does a lot of his work online, I needed to include more hands-on things he and Ebelle could do together, outside of the bedroom.

Mel has been the most difficult character to write for so far, not because I don't really understand his personality, but because I very much do. All of the characters in this game are based on life experiences I've had, or those of people close to me. And Mel's mentality towards work, relaxation, and pleasure are very much a reflection of my own. Which makes it tricky to write down without feeling too... self conscious, I suppose. Still, I'm making it work. Any time I hit a wall on a character's story, I can swap to making art, coding, or working on another part of the plot.

Soon enough, I should hit halfway point of all three character routes, where the stories temporarily converge. At that point, I think I'll be more confident that I'm making something worth reading.
